Indigenous Faith Day greetings
ITANAGAR, Nov 30: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has greeted the people of the State on the occasion of Indigenous Faith Day to be celebrated tomorrow across the state.
The Governor in his message hoped the occasion will continue to strengthen the indigenous faiths and ritualistic practices in the State.
“Arunachal Pradesh is truly a cultural mosaic. Nature has blessed the people with different faiths and divine beliefs. Most of the tribes are ethnically very similar, but their geographical isolation from each other has brought amongst them, certain characteristics in customs, traditions and rituals. Celebration of the day by various indigenous faith groups of the State together reinforces the spirit of unity in diversity,” the Governor said in his message.
The Governor reposed confidence that the marvelous tradition will continue under the guidance of elders of the communities.
Tuki in his message emphasized on the significance of the Indigenous Faith movement, particularly under the aegis of the Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP), that has successfully preserved and maintained the traditional customs and faiths of the indigenous tribes of the state in the age of rapid globalization.
Reiterating the popular idiom ‘Loss of culture is loss of identity’, he asserted the necessity to preserve the distinct indigenous identities of the various tribes of the state lest these are lost forever.
“Ours is a distinct state with several tribes and communities residing side by side for ages and maintaining their own unique indigenous culture and traditions. Despite our varied diversity, we as Arunachalees are united and take pride in our indigenous cultural heritage. This cultural mosaic has to be maintained, preserved and propagated at all costs while keeping in tact our unity in diversity,” the Chief Minister added.
Over 1500 athletes to participate in NE sports competition
ITANAGAR, Nov 30: Over 1500 athletes from eight northeastern states are expected to take part in the National Level North East Sports Competition being held here from December 10 to 13.
The competition will feature 10 sports events, which include Athletics, Archery, Badminton, Boxing, Football, Judo, Karate, Taekwondo, Weightlifting and Wushu.
Football will be played at RG Stadium, Naharlagun, Weight lifting at DN College auditorium, Badminton at MLA cottage Badminton hall and rest of the events will be conducted at Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA), Chimpu, complex informed the Department of Sports and Youths Affairs.
The games will be officially kicked off at SLSA Sports Complex on December 10.
Meanwhile, preparation for the biggest sporting event of the region was going on in full swing under the constant supervision of Sports and Youth Affairs Director DK Dinglow. A mass social service was also conducted to clean the SLSA complex today, the main venue of the competition.

Arunachal Food Festival’ to begin on Dec 11
ITANAGAR, Nov 30: With a motive to promote state based hotels, resorts, restaurants and bars through the delicious cuisines, both local and continental, and to create awareness on hospitality services, especially to domestic and foreign tourists, the All Arunachal Hotel, Resort Restaurant and Bar Association (AAHRRBA) will be organizing its first ever ‘Arunachal Food Festival’ at Indira Gandhi Park here from December 11 to 14.
‘At least 60 reputed hotels, resorts, restaurants and bars from across the state will put up their stalls in the proposed food festival. Beside regular programmes, cultural events and fashion show of local designers will be the added attractions of the festival, AAHRRBA President Tagru Punong informed the media persons at a Press conference here today.
Responding to a query of the media persons on high and exorbitant prices of food items and beverages as experienced in the past in such food festivals in the state, Punong informed that the Aruanchal Food Fest will completely be a different one where visitors will have the opportunity to taste various food items at reasonable rate.

MDM review meet
ITANAGAR, Nov 30: Seijosa ADC TR Tapu stressed on healthy and hygienic mid day meal (MDM) to attract more and more students to schools.
Chairing the two days meeting held recently to review implementation of MDM scheme at Seijosa, the ADC gave emphasis on cleanliness and sought proper monitoring of prepared food under MDM by school management committees, Panchayat leaders and teachers.

Former Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin passes away
ITANAGAR, Nov 30: Former Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin passed away today following a brief illness. According to family sources, he had liver thrombosis which affected other vital organs. He was being treated at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon but succumbed to his illness at 11.15 pm today.
His body will be flown to his native Aalo on Tuesday. Gamlin is survived by three daughters and a son.
Gamlin born on 16th April 1961 at Aalo in West Siang district was the second son of Sokjar Gamlin and Gamde Ete Gamlin. He studied in Sainik School, Goalpara in Assam and graduated in History from St. Stephen's College in Delhi. He graduated in law from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi in 1984. Later, he practiced as a lawyer in Dibrugarh.
Gamlin started his political career as a leader of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students
Union (AAPSU). He was the president of AAPSU from 1981-
On 5th May 2011, Gamlin became the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh after the death of Dorjee Khandu on 30th April, 2011. On 31 October 2011, Gamlin resigned from Chief Ministership due to political crisis in the State.
Insufficient courts staffs hamper judicial procedures

ITANAGAR, Nov 30: The Papum Pare District Bar Association (PPDBA) today demanded the honorable High Court to expedite the recruitment process of 123 group ‘C’ & ‘D’ posts for effective functioning of the subordinate courts in the state.
Addressing the media persons at Press Club here, PPDBA President Nabam Jollaw said, “Courts are not functioning properly because of shortage of staff " and that "courts are at the mercy of the district administration".
He further added that the courts are functioning without clerical staff such as peon, clerks and computer operators and stenographers hampering the judicial procedures and daily activities of the courts. The Bar Association President also pointed out that due to insufficient staff; the subordinate courts have been unable to dispose off the cases as fast as it should. He also disclosed that the pending cases totalled 654 till October 2014. PPDBA informed that the state government has sanctioned for the recruitment of group C & D posts, within time frame, however the Gauhati High Court has failed to conduct interviews as yet. It also claimed that examinations for various posts have already been conducted, but the results are yet to be declared. It questioned the reasons for the delay.
The District Bar Association added that Chief Secretary had written to the Deputy Commissioners in August 2013 directing them to provide the necessary infrastructure like court buildings and residential buildings for chief judicial magistrates and judicial magistrate until the required infrastructure is created by the government.
The Association’s Debate and Symposium Secretary Tarak (Tarh) Eha appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to comply with the standing Direction of the Chief Secretary so that judiciary could function properly. The Bar Association blamed the High Court and the Deputy Commissioners for flawed functioning of the subordinate courts, claiming that it has failed to manage required staff and infrastructure.

Citizens protest against CRPF brutalities at Deomali

ITANAGAR, Nov 30: A massive peaceful protest was organized yesterday against Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Deomali town by the citizens and student groups. On Friday evening CRPF jawans allegedly thrashed local citizens including women and children without any provocation at Deomali market area.
The incident triggered angry reaction from civil society groups of the town. Sensing the seriousness of the situation, CRPF officials have reportedly apologized for the incident.
However, the victims are demanding police action against the CRPF jawans who in drunken state violently assaulted the innocent citizens.
As per the report, the whole mayhem started on Friday evening at Kailashpur market area of Deomali.
“Group of local boys had picked up petty fight with a shopkeeper. The matter was resolved when Bazaar secretary intervened after being alerted by the shopkeeper. However, by then big crowd had gathered around the shop. Camp of the 36th battalion of CRPF is located few metres away from the spot where the fight broke out. Surprising everyone, the CRPF jawans in civilian clothes carrying lathis came out from the camp and started thrashing everyone without any provocation,” shared an eyewitness.
The CRPF personnel did not even spared senior citizens and women. Continuing their rampaging mayhem, the CRPF personnel also entered inside the boy’s hostel of Wangcha Rajkumar Govt. College and dragged out the students who were studying for the exams. The students were severely beaten up by the CRPF jawans doubting them of involving in the fight near their camp. One lady lecturer was also injured in the entire melee.
An FIR was lodged at Deomali police station by the victim students but the police did not register the case. When contacted, officer in charge of Deomali police station, CB Rai confirmed that as of now they have not registered the case even though the students of Wangcha Rajkumar Govt. College have lodged an FIR. But he added that matter is now being investigated by additional SP of the district. “Additional SP yesterday arrived from Khonsa and recorded the statements of both victims and CRPF officials. Now matter will be handled by higher officials and we will wait for their instruction,” said the OC.
Though calm, a tense situation is still prevailing as citizens are still coming to terms with incident. They are extremely upset with the violent and abusive behavior of CRPF personnel.
State needs skilled workforce: Byaling
DAPORIJO, Nov 30: Creation of a skilled workforce from within our people to meet the needs and demands of our state is an imperative duty that the government has taken up through the Job Mela and skill development trainings, said Home Minister Tanga Byaling.
Inaugurating the second phase of Job Mela at Singik Hall, Daporijo today, Byaling stressed the need for acquiring skills that will help in getting employment as against acquiring certificates and degrees without learning the requisite skill and knowledge. He called upon all participants to be dedicated and sincere in learning the skills of the vocation they decided to take up.
Byaling also called upon the Vocational Training Providers (VTPs) to design courses on skill development in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, construction etc as trained people are urgently required in these fields which have a huge potential in our state.
MLA and APEDA Chairman Dikto Yekar urged all the candidates who are truly determined to learn employable skills to sign up and go for the training which would open up new opportunities within and outside the state for them.
Highlighting about the government’s flagship programmes of skill generation and CM’s Universal Health Insurance Scheme, he informed that efforts are on from his side to provide better facilities at Daporijo like additional SBI ATM machine, better road facilities, and incentives to leaders of the cleanest colonies at Daporijo etc.
Director (Skill Development) Subu Tabin informed the gathering about the objectives of the government in conducting the Job Mela and providing skill development training for the selected candidates free of cost. He emphasised on the dignity of labour and explained that all professions had an importance in their own right and so skill development and skilled workforce was necessary to meet the demands in all sectors. He also informed that all residents, including APSTs and non APSTs of the state could sign up and avail the skill development training.
Deputy Commissioner Komkar Dulom urged the participants to give their best performance during the training and acquire skills that would be useful to them for finding employment.

“The State Governments were advised to convert all previous forest villages, unrecorded settlements and old habitations into revenue villages with a sense of urgency in a time bound manner,” the representation added.

As an advisor of the All Arunachal Pradesh Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teacher Association, I would like to compliment Sotai Kri, Vice President of the BJP who batted for regularization of SSA Teachers who have served for more than 5 (five) years in a letter addressed to HRD Minister of the Central Govt, which was reported in the local dailies on Nov 17.
I appreciate him for showing serious concern for the struggling SSA teachers who want to have life secured under such harsh condition. We would never forget such initiative from big and humane hearted leaders.
We would request the BJP and other leaders to continue their initiatives for its immediate solution as already beginning has been made by you. We shall be extremely grateful and thankful to all those initiators who work for betterment of the teachers. Had there been sincere leaders like him, we wouldn't have been leading such an uncertain life.
As SSA Teacher we are facing untold problem which cannot be expressed in few words. Since 2003, we have been serving the Department with utmost sincerity and dedication despite irregular payment or disbursement of salaries.
Most of us have crossed 40 but there is still a question of regularization of the jobs.
In most of the elementary school and even in higher secondary school, SSA teachers are doing commendable duties but reciprocal rewards are not coming forward in encouraging way from the State Government which has caused serious concern for our SSA teachers.
In our State there are 1019 Upper Primary Schools and 3002 Primary Schools. In Primary School SSA teachers are 4497 out of total 8579 teachers. In Upper Primary Schools, the total SSA Teachers are 2113 out of 4503.
Most of the rural based schools are run by SSA Teachers. We are always enjoying the policies and programme of the Govt in words, such as top priorities for education sector but the plights of SSA teachers are going from bad to worse.
In such worrisome struggle of life when political parties and leaders are engaged in encouraging initiatives and words, it certainly lift our spirit, mind, heart and soul but real fulfilment would be when they help us to fulfil the long felt demand of SSA teachers for regularization.

A good read
Dear editor,
The article titled "Arunachal festivities on the roll" by Amar Sangno made a good read. His take on skyrocketing of food price in stalls during festivals and our tilt towards westernization was a museum piece. It was not an act of spilling the beans but an ugly truth that has become our order of the day.
It is no surprise that food prices are at its possible high during festivals. Even 5 star hotel's price is incomparable to that of local food stalls which only mitigates the charm of our festival to bare minimum. How can one expect to buy few pieces of meat for 1000 odd rupees? What impression it would leave upon tourist who pays visit to such events only to explore the rich culture and heritage of our state? Why to risk and reduce the positive message that we send out from such events for the sake of warm pockets of few? It is very wrong practice and concerned body should take up the cudgel to do away with it right away. Proper regulation of prices for such events is need of hour for our so called tourism potential state.
Coming to the second point, when we talk about westernization why can't we seek good from them. Why to narrow the definition of westernization and confine it merely with western hits or Bollywood numbers? I am not against them but I am against the indifference towards our local songs displayed by our young ones. No doubt, listening to any number cannot be forced upon, it should come from within but I feel it is our moral responsibility to preserve our local songs, dialects and tradition where music plays a significant role. Without much do, let me just exemplify my assertion. How many Indian Idols and Hindi or English singer we have produced? But Arunachal Pradesh was requested by the central government to display our cultural heritage in the form of Rikam Pada dance on 26 Jan in New Delhi. It is true that we can't compete with them to our fullest potential when it comes to western and Bollywood music but I am equally confident that they too can't compete us in things we do, things we compose. Something's that comes so natural cannot be competed by some 'trying to be' effort.
I am very grateful to Amar Sangno for giving us the opportunity to marvel around some valid yet tamed points that is for our own good.

Dear Editor,
Thought the column of your esteem daily, I would like to share my personal experiences regarding private job recruiters of our state. Every day, there is call for recruitment to various posts in private organisations. But irony is that no one wants to recruit local youth.
When I asked about the reason, I was simply told "Local aadmi log baat nehi sunta hai". They only want to invest on outsiders, I guess.
In this regard my personal opinion is that" baat sunna aur nehi sunna "depend on individual to individual.
If our own people have this kind of mentality then why should outsiders recruit our youth?
And what I have seen till now is that local people have much more potential to do any kind of work whether technical or non technical.

China in no mood to relent
Over the last few decades, Arunachal Pradesh has bore brunt of the Chinese claim over the state. The Chinese have successfully managed to keep foreign companies out of state, thereby severely affecting the foreign investment. Recently Japan backed out of a road projects from state after China expressed its displeasure to Tokyo. In the past bodies like World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB) have also refused to fund the developmental projects due to Chinese objection. Off late, there was a genuine hope that visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to New Delhi recently will thaw the relation between two neighbours and Chinese will stop such activities.
However as the day passes on, it seems Beijing is not willing to relent. Instead of mellowing down, they have repeatedly carried out incursion inside Indian territories at Ladakh and Arunachal. President Xi Jinping on Saturday advocated that China should firmly uphold its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights while handling disputes, but at the same time step up its diplomacy with neighbouring countries. He said this while addressing central conference of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) on work relating to foreign affairs. Though he spoke about stepping up diplomacy to resolve disputes, but his hard stand on territorial issue is matter of serious concern. Especially for Arunachal his statement does not augur well. The union government will have to carefully respond to this latest challenge thrown up by China.
